Overview
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Lower Level Short Stay Unit (LL JCP). The unit is part of UI Health Care's Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division. Lower Level features 30 private patient rooms and is designed to care for patients admitted under observation or recovery level of care, with a focus on timely treatment. The patient population includes medical and surgical patients with typical 24-48 hour stay; diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, back pain, and syncope. Surgical recovery patients include orthopedics, urology, plastics, and cardiology, among others. We rely on teamwork to provide high quality and compassionate care and to educate patients for safe transition home.
Responsibilities
Assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice.
Apply nursing theory to assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
Develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial factors, and implement interventions to attain expected outcomes.
Implement patient care plans according to priorities, document interventions and patient/family response.
Collaborate and integrate contributions of patients and families into the multidisciplinary care plan.
Develop, coordinate and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
Implement nursing interventions according to policies/procedures to maintain a safe environment; follow universal precautions.
Details Percent of Time: 90%, 36 hours per week
Schedule: Night shifts, Sunday through Tuesday, with weekend and holiday rotation per unit guidelines

Compensation and Benefits Salary: $61,183 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. This does not include differentials. Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort.

Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Inpatient differential of $10,000 per year based on percent time.

Education and Experience
Education Required: An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
Experience Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrates interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members; general computer skills including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel; current license to practice nursing in Iowa by date of hire.
Desirable Qualifications: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired; if not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
