Senior On‑Call Botanist – Sacramento, CA
Environment & Planning Division of ICF seeks a Senior On‑Call Botanist to support projects across Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. This role focuses on vegetation mapping, wetland delineation, and rare plant surveys.
What You Will Do
Conduct small to large‑scale field surveys for vegetation mapping, wetland delineation, and rare plants.
Collect and synthesize field data.
Maintain close communication with the project manager and teammates.
Work independently or in teams; lead single‑person or small‑group field efforts.
Navigate uneven, steep terrain; excavate soil pits up to 18 inches using hand tools.
Carry gear up to 20 lbs, wear a backpack during field surveys.
What You Must Have
BS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology; MS or higher preferred.
5+ years experience in botanical surveys and wetland delineations.
Valid driver’s license and pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
What We’d Like You To Have
MS in Botany, Biology, or Ecology.
California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM) training.
Knowledge of special‑status plant species and wetland regulations.
Strong knowledge of California flora, taxonomy, and use of dichotomous keys.
Experience with federal, state, and local agency guidelines in plant identification.
Construction monitoring experience.
Leadership experience managing or leading staff on biological or wetland projects.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Team player able to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
Flexibility to handle multiple priorities and occasional overtime.
Familiarity with GPS mapping technology.
On‑Call Employment As an on‑call employee, you will schedule work hours a few weeks in advance and may accept or decline assignments each week. You may work concurrent projects outside ICF provided there are no conflicts of interest.
Pay Range $73,403 – $124,784 per year.
Location Sacramento, CA.
