Overview

The Ohio State University, Division of Environmental Health Sciences, College of Public Health, is seeking a dedicated Research Technician 1 to assist with laboratory investigations focused on antibiotic resistance in clinical and foodborne pathogens. The technician will support molecular biology workflows, microbiological assays, and data collection for ongoing projects. This role involves collaboration with postdoctoral researchers and faculty to carry out experiments, maintain lab operations, and contribute to data organization and reporting. The position offers exposure to cutting-edge research in antimicrobial development, bacteriophage therapy, and microbiome analysis. Responsibilities

Laboratory Support (60%): Assist in conducting microbiological and molecular biology experiments, including bacterial culturing, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and antibiotic susceptibility testing. Maintain accurate lab records and follow established protocols. Data Management (20%): Organize and document experimental data. Prepare figures and summaries for reports and publications. Laboratory Maintenance (10%): Maintain lab equipment, manage inventory, ensure safety procedures, and assist with ordering and stocking of supplies. Team Collaboration (10%): Participate in lab meetings, train new students, and collaborate with team members on shared tasks. Qualifications

Required Education: High School diploma or GED Desired Experience: 1 year of relevant experience. Hands-on experience with microbiology and molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis), microbiological culturing, cell culture, and sterile technique. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience with qPCR, genome sequencing workflows, or bioinformatics tools is a plus. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment. Research experience in antibiotic resistance. Desired Education: Master’s degree in Microbiology or a relevant field Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.15 - $19.79 per hour Salary offer will be determined from candidate education, experience, internal equity, and budget. Location: Cunz Hall (0293) Position Type: Term (Fixed Term) Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: First Shift Other Requirements

Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post-offer process.
