Medical Laboratory Scientist, Full Time Nights, Blood Bank, MMC
Base pay range: $33.33/hr - $58.67/hr
Job Description
Comfortable handling emergency situations such as Massive Transfusion Protocols and Emergency Release, issuing uncrossmatched blood according to laboratory approved procedures.
Inspects and issues compatible blood and blood products for transfusion, performs visual and temperature checks on returned blood, and disposes of improperly stored, labeled, punctured, outdated, contaminated, or hemolyzed blood according to approved procedures.
Monitors blood and blood product inventory to ensure adequate supply for patient transfusion, orders blood and blood products when indicated, and tracks inventory of reagents and other Blood Bank supplies, notifying the Blood Bank Supervisor or Leads when supplies are low.
Participates in the training and instruction of new MLS hired in the Blood Bank.
Performs routine and standardized tests as outlined in the Blood Bank Standard Operating Procedures (ABO/Rh/Antibody Screen, Antibody Identification, Direct Antiglobulin tests, compatibility tests, phenotyping, elution, etc.), completing proper documentation.
Performs special methods as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedure and/or Technical Manual to resolve difficulties such as multiple antibodies, ABO discrepancies, antibodies of undetermined specificity, and incompatible crossmatches, documenting all work.
Conducts transfusion reaction investigation, workups, and testing according to Standard Operating Procedure.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Documented training as defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489(b).
Non‑degree semester hours in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science will be evaluated as defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489(b).
ASCP eligibility required.
Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology/ medical or clinical laboratory science preferred.
Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology/ medical or clinical laboratory science and experience as defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489(b) preferred.
Major not specified on diploma – transcript required.
Foreign degree – foreign equivalency documents required.
Minimum 2 years Blood Bank experience preferred, if applicable.
New MLS/ CLS/ MLT/ AAS graduates welcome!
