Job Summary: Responsible for claims billing, follow up on claim denials and outstanding AR.

25% - Claim Preparation
25% - Account Follow-up
25% - Appeals
20% - Authorization Request
5% - Special Projects As Assigned by Unit Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent work experience or training
Follow-up payer billing experience. History of successful payor denial appeals.
Experience with government and third-party payors. Including current regulations, time limitations and procedures.
Good verbal and written communication skills. Documents and reports clearly and concisely. Conveys instructions, directions and information appropriately. Ability to write effectively and to compose internal and external correspondence.
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicare Risk, Tricare and VA Plans is required.
Extensive knowledge of Medi-Cal, CCS and Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans is required.
Analytical skills to assess account balances and make determination/decision on further action.
Knowledge of medical terminology in order to correlate reports to actual charges and to determine appropriateness of denials.
General knowledge of credit and collection practices.
Knowledge of basic accounting practices.
Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 policies related to medical billing.
Math skills to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Ability to read and comprehend department policy, internal and external correspondence.
Writing skills to effectively compose internal and external correspondence.
Proofreading skills to identify and correct own errors.
Communication skills to appropriately respond to account inquiries, both in person and over the telephone, and to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with employees and Administration.
Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure to meet deadlines established by the department, government programs, or private insurance carriers.
Ability to be flexible in a quickly changing environment.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
Keyboarding skills to effectively operate computer terminal and PC; prepare internal and external correspondence and forms as required.
Ability to operate standard office equipment and maintain accurate patient financial files.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Two plus years experience in Government billing and follow up
Extensive knowledge of medical billing/follow-up/reimbursement requirements and procedures for government programs, private third party insurance and private individuals.
Solid working knowledge in Epic Professional Billing Resolute.
Ability to analyze and interpret various types of Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and Remittance Advice (RA).
