Overview
Instructor, Medical Office Administration/Coding - Adjunct (Re-advertised) Teach Medical Office Administration and/or Coding courses under general supervision. Prepare and deliver quality instruction, support student success, and participate in college activities while maintaining currency in the instructional field. Duties/Responsibilities
Prepare and teach departmental courses, including developing learner-centered lesson plans and utilizing appropriate instructional materials and current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments Incorporate strategies that support a diverse student population and provide instructional materials such as syllabi and supplemental resources Assess student learning outcomes in courses and programs as appropriate Participate in professional development to maintain currency and credentials as required Oversee facilities, equipment, and student records; maintain safe working conditions and secure instructional materials Maintain student records (grades, attendance) using technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor, Moodle) and comply with relevant rules and deadlines Support student success by addressing concerns, promoting retention, and referring students to campus and community resources; model employability skills Maintain and manage administrative duties as assigned by supervisor Qualifications
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Office Administration, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution Certification: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Education Preferred Master’s degree in Medical Office Administration, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution Certified Professional Coder-Instructor (CPC-I) and/or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H) Experience Experience Required Three years of relevant medical office experience including outpatient medical coding (provider and/or facility) Medical insurance claims review and submission experience Claims denial review and resubmission experience Practice management system and/or electronic health record experience Teaching and/or industry training experience in healthcare/medical office technology in formats such as courses, training sessions, professional development workshops, or other continuing education seminars Experience Preferred More than three years of relevant medical office experience Microsoft Office suite proficiency Post-secondary teaching experience Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes Experience with distance learning and/or alternative instructional delivery systems Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing procedures Respect for diversity and commitment to open-access education Strong communication and technology integration skills Ability to create and maintain a learner-centered environment Other Requirements
Mandatory GTCC trainings and annual updates as required (e.g., Reporting Requirements, Discrimination & Anti-Harassment, Shooter on Campus, Personal Information Protection, Ethics and Social Responsibility, eLearning levels for online/hybrid instruction) Health requirements as specified by clinical contracts Background check including criminal background, OIG reviews, and drug screen if required by clinical facilities Physical Demands
