Summary Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the
Respiratory Therapist – Limited License Student
performs a variety of duties related to all aspects of respiratory care. Responsibilities include maintaining and monitoring respiratory equipment for both infants and adults, obtaining arterial blood gas samples, assisting in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, performing EKG tracings, and maintaining accurate records of patient therapies. This position covers the essential functions of the role under a limited license and is classified as a per diem opportunity. The incumbent may be assigned additional related duties as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrates a strong understanding of respiratory care theory, methods, and techniques across a variety of patient populations.
Ensures competence in all assigned respiratory care procedures and equipment operation within the student’s scope of responsibility.
Maintains a solid foundation in anatomy and physiology, gas laws, acid-base balance, pulmonary pathology, and pharmacology.
Follows all departmental safety and infection control policies, recognizing and addressing potentially dangerous situations appropriately.
Strives for excellence in patient care by recommending and providing effective therapies focused on patient comfort and safety.
Applies theoretical and technical knowledge in new or challenging clinical situations.
Assists other staff members in making informed, patient-centered decisions.
Demonstrates effective prioritization and organizational skills by assessing therapy appropriateness and taking corrective action when needed.
Completes assigned work efficiently and offers assistance to colleagues when possible.
Uses available resources effectively for education, support, and patient care.
Demonstrates initiative in seeking new resources to enhance knowledge and performance.
Shares knowledge and skills with peers, students, and other healthcare professionals.
Contributes to a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
Accepts responsibility for decisions and actions while meeting organizational and professional commitments.
Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward schedule changes and departmental needs.
Acts as a role model through clinical excellence and patient-centered care.

Responds promptly to emergency and STAT calls, assessing acuity and acting appropriately.
Uses downtime constructively for education, research, or departmental projects.
Respects patient rights, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.
Explains procedures clearly to patients and reassures them to reduce anxiety.
Demonstrates compassion and understanding of patient needs and concerns.
Works collaboratively with peers and other healthcare professionals to achieve high-quality patient outcomes.
Supports hospital and departmental policies and contributes to team cohesiveness.
Participates in staff meetings and offers constructive feedback and suggestions.
Participates in ongoing education, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Maintains membership in at least one professional organization, such as the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
