We are seeking a Protection & Controls Technician to work with our testing team on construction sites within the continental US.
Position Summary
Must be able to safely work in energized utility class substations.
Must be able to lead a team and exhibit/maintain a positive attitude.
Individual will be responsible for testing utility transmission grade relays and performing all associated functional testing of protective schemes on projects within the continental US.
Individual will be capable of commissioning and troubleshooting substation SCADA systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
Plan, prepare and execute test plans with Doble ProTest or equivalent software/equipment.
Plan and perform functional testing of complex protection schemes.
Responsible for overall quality and conformance to specifications of the project.
Troubleshoot and resolve design and wiring issues.
Communicate progress and issues to Project Manager and other company management.
Track and organize project testing documentation for inclusion in close‑out packages.
Skills / Experience / Abilities
Ability to professionally represent the Company with clients, owners, vendors and subcontractors.
Push issues to resolution.
Self‑motivated.
Strong verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
Excellent ability to understand technical drawings & specifications.
Capability and inclination to research and self‑teach unfamiliar subject matter.
Experience (3‑5 years) testing SEL, GE, ABB, Basler microprocessor‑based relays.
Understanding of protective relays and schemes including overcurrent, differential, line, voltage, and frequency protection applications.
Perform SCADA testing with SEL RTAC or similar vendor equipment.
Strong computer skills in MS Office, Doble Protection Suite, RTS, SEL Accelerator, Adobe and others as needed.
Perform in‑service checks in energized substations.
Requirements
Minimum Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology/Engineering, Bachelor’s preferred or equivalent experience in industry (10+ years) preferred.
Travel: 75% average (annual).
Clean driving record.
Work in challenging ambient conditions including outdoors, hot and cold temperatures and loud noises.
Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials up to 60 lbs.
Must be able to work in elevated positions.
OSHA 10‑hour (minimum).
NFPA 70E.
FA/CPR training.
NICET or NETA level 2 or higher qualified.
