$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year depending on experience
Operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM, and Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Schedule varies based on program needs and assigned caseload.

We offer compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual’s needs, whether they require structured support or a more flexible approach. Our programs include Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Outpatient (OP) levels of care.
Position Summary The LAC/LSW Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder (MH/SUD) Counselor, under the supervision of the Clinical Director, provides direct clinical services to individuals and groups within Social Recovery Center’s outpatient programs. This full-time position is responsible for managing a caseload, conducting individual and group counseling sessions, and maintaining accurate, timely documentation in the Sunwave EMR system. The Counselor works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, evidence-based, and person-centered care in alignment with Social Recovery Center’s standards of excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive assessments using the ASI, DSM-5, and other standardized tools (e.g., ASAM Criteria, PHQ-9, Beck Anxiety Inventory, PCL-5).
Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, ensuring goals are measurable, recovery-focused, and person-centered.
Provide individual and group counseling sessions for mental health and substance use recovery.
Maintain up-to-date documentation of all services, progress notes, assessments, and treatment plans in compliance with clinical and third-party payor standards.
Evaluate client progress regularly, revising treatment plans and determining continued care, transfer, or discharge as appropriate.
Develop discharge and transition plans to support ongoing recovery and connection to community resources.
Coordinate care and communicate with referral sources, external providers, and community partners as needed.
Participate actively as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
Stay current on evidence-based practices and emerging methodologies in mental health and substance use counseling.
Attend regular clinical supervision and team meetings.
Facilitate or co-facilitate therapy and psychoeducation groups as assigned.
Complete all assigned tasks and documentation accurately and on time.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Director.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field required.
Active LAC (Licensed Associate Counselor) or LSW (Licensed Social Worker) credential in the State of New Jersey required.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a behavioral health or substance use treatment setting (internship experience may be considered).
Working knowledge of ASAM criteria, DSM-5 diagnoses, and evidence-based treatment modalities for co-occurring disorders.
Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems; experience with Sunwave preferred.
Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
