The Speech Pathologist is at a novice to advanced beginner level, primarily in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include performing assessments and therapeutic interventions for a routine patient population. The role supports team efforts through task completion, problem-solving, and intervention skills. Upon successful completion of their CFY year and with approval, the Speech Pathologist may orient other allied health professionals and provide student experiences, subject to the approval of the Department Manager and Coordinator of Student Supervision. Requirements for Hire
Virginia licensure or eligibility as a Speech and Language Pathologist Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in SLP from ASHA or CFY candidate status Continued Employment Requirements
Current Virginia SLP license and CCC in SLP CPR certification Experience
New graduates or CFY candidates with less than two years of experience; strong consideration for Clinical Fellowship Year candidates Experience in evaluating and treating neurogenic, motor speech, linguistic/cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders Experience performing swallow studies including MBS and bedside assessments Preferred Experience
Trach management related to swallowing and communication disorders Managing complex swallowing and communication disorders Critical care setting experience Experience with computer-based documentation systems Education and Training
Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an ASHA-accredited program Required coursework completed Independent Actions
Perform assessments, develop treatment plans, set goals, educate patients and families, and document care for patients with mild to moderate communication and swallowing disorders. Supervision and guidance are available from senior staff as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities
Possibility to supervise students if deemed competent and approved by management. Additional Requirements
Work hours and schedule will be determined with your manager, including potential weekends and holidays based on staffing needs. Physical requirements include lifting, standing, sitting, walking, climbing, and sensory activities. EEO Statement
