Position highlights The Department of Computer Science at the University of Arizona is accepting applications from dedicated educators for Professor of Practice-track faculty positions at all ranks. Professors of Practice hold non-tenure-eligible, career-track teaching positions. Teaching faculty are critical to the department’s mission and are appointed with the expectation of long-term employment. The typical teaching load is four courses per academic year (two per semester); however, factors such as class size may reduce that load. Summer teaching may be available for interested faculty for additional compensation.

Professors of Practice at all ranks teach both core and elective undergraduate courses and actively participate in departmental faculty meetings, decision-making, planning, and service. The Professor of Practice teaching track is non-tenure-eligible but offers a well-defined promotion path. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field and will be considered for appointment at the Assistant Professor of Practice, Associate Professor of Practice, or full Professor of Practice ranks based on experience and evidence of teaching quality and effectiveness.

We are especially interested in candidates who can teach undergraduate courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, we welcome strong applicants from all areas of computer science. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellent teaching and student engagement—regardless of specialization—are strongly encouraged to apply.

As of Fall 2025, the Department of Computer Science has 29 faculty members, including 10 Career-Track faculty. The department has a long history of excellent undergraduate and graduate instruction and research accomplishments with an enthusiastic student body.

The university is in Tucson, the heart of a metropolitan area of over a million people surrounded by five mountain ranges. Tucson offers a warm desert climate, abundant outdoor activities, and a vibrant arts scene.
