Responsibilities

Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, monitoring, and disconnect.

Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process, complying with SOPs and FDA guidelines.

Evaluate vein performance of each donor to identify possible problems, make necessary corrections to expedite donation time, ensure product quality, and provide a positive experience for the donor.

Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma, explaining the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and any other pertinent information.

Maintain alertness to any reactions by donors, assist with reactions, or notify appropriate staff.

Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts, volume variances, and donor adverse events.

Perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in the SOPs; respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.

Troubleshoot equipment failures, create incident documentation, and remove or replace equipment from service.

Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover, alert the Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.

Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing.

Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.

Understand policies and procedures associated with hyperimmune programs at the center, if applicable.

Maintain a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available; follow all HSE and OSHA policies and promote safety.

Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.

May be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs.

Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization.

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements for Centers Located in California

Persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, or

Current Registered Nurse by the State of California.
