Overview Review, analyze and assign the final diagnoses and procedures as stated by the practicing provider's documentation following all compliance policies and guidelines. Accurately code office and hospital procedures to ensure reimbursement. Provide physician education to ensure proper completion of Electronic Health Records and correct assignment of ICD‑10‑CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes.

Responsibilities

Review clinical documentation and code to the highest level of specificity for accurate charge capture.

Interact with providers to provide feedback and education through physical, verbal, and written communication.

Assign and sequence appropriate codes and modifiers using current procedure, diagnosis, and HCPCS for services billed.

Follow coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.

Communicate with physicians, other business group personnel, clinical areas, and staff on coding‑related questions.

Manage coding‑related edit work queues.

Prepare documentation audits with written results and trend data; present results to the provider, department chairman, and/or compliance officer.

Maintain compliance standards per internal compliance policies and report issues appropriately.

Identify and account for missing charges and/or documentation.

Perform coding work requiring independent judgment with timeliness and accuracy.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

3 years of medical billing experience (preferred).

3 years of extensive physician coding experience (required).

Experience with medical management information systems and medical software (required).

High school diploma (required).

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification – required at the time of hire.
