Facility: Comprehensive Stroke Center – Neuro Intensive Care Unit
Position Type: Travel Registered Nurse (Locum Tenens)
Assignment Length: 13‑week contract
Start Date: October 27, 2025
End Date: January 26, 2026
Shift: 12‑hour nights (18:45 – 07:15)
Weekly Hours: 36
Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
Patient Ratio: 2:1 (may flex to 3:1 during high census)
Orientation: 24‑hour (2 shifts: days or nights)
Estimated weekly salary range: $1660 – $1700
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of recent Neuro ICU RN experience (neuro critical care expertise required)
Previous travel nurse experience required (no first‑time travelers)
Active North Carolina or Compact State RN license (valid by start date)
Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (current and in good standing)
Proficient with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system
Must pass EKG competency test prior to start
Willingness to float to other hospital units as needed
Clinical skills: ventilator management, IV starts, neuro intensive care, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, blood product administration, central line care, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, external ventricular drains (EVD), intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, post‑neurosurgery care, lumbar drains, isolation precautions/PPE
Preferred: Arterial line management experience
Responsibilities
Deliver expert nursing care to patients with complex neuro diagnoses (ischemic/hemorrhagic strokes, craniotomies, carotid stents/endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, myasthenia gravis, etc.)
Operate and manage specialized neuro ICU equipment: EVDs, lumbar drains, ICP monitoring, etc.
Administer blood products and emergency medications as needed
Implement infection prevention and isolation protocols
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, rapid response, lift teams, and transportation
Float to other critical care units or affiliate hospitals as required
Document all patient care accurately in Epic EHR
Participate in unit orientation and ongoing clinical education
