What to Expect (Job Responsibilities): - Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures according to ICD guidelines and UHDDS - Assign appropriate MS-DRG or APR-DRG codes for complex inpatient services - Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists to address documentation concerns - Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and inquiries from third-party payers - Identify and report hospital-acquired conditions and other coding-related issues
What is Required (Qualifications): - Minimum education: AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma or Health Information Management Degree - Minimum of three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility - Active certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding standards - Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications): - Experience with electronic health record systems - Academic or level I or II trauma experience - AAPC credential with a preference for Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
