Level II = $76,579
Level III = $89,341
Supervisor: Director of EDC/SES
To facilitate reduction of speech, language and aural impairments that interfere with the individual students' ability to benefit from the District's educational program
Supervision received and Exercised
Receives general direction from the Special Education Director or assignee.
May exercise technical and functional supervision over supervisory, professional, technical and clerical staff.
Essential Function Statements

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Administer appropriate assessments for each area of suspected speech language impairment. Develop therapy programs and materials to remediate communication delays and/or deficiencies; and intervention techniques. Confers with other teachers, and specialists to discuss, plan and determine course of action in providing treatment Deliver services in a variety of models: individual, group, consultation, collaboration with classroom teachers. Conduct and participate in in-service training and staff development programs; and participate in establishing and maintaining a safe orderly and therapeutic environment. Makes medical referral to outside agencies for further evaluation and possible treatment, as appropriate Develop and maintain the instructional component of the IEP according to the results of the evaluation and ongoing assessment of progress Responsible for the care and safety of students during treatment Attends professional seminars, meetings, conferences; and confers with other practitioners and technical experts in field of specialization, to broaden knowledge, acquire specific information or obtain advice or consultation. Maintain compliance with all regulations, laws, professional ethics and practices; and comply and follow state standards and district policies in the processes of screening, referral and placement of students identified as needing speech language/aural evaluation. Documents student evaluation, progress, and attendance. Prepare comprehensive reports on the results of speech language evaluation and student progress to be placed in the permanent records. Provide consultation services to teaching staff and other District professionals or specialists.
Qualification Requirements
Knowledge of:
Principles and techniques of communication disorders, identification and treatment. Methods and techniques of administering, scoring and interpreting a variety of tests currently accepted as effective in diagnosing and treating speech language impaired students.
Ability To
Diagnose speech language problems
Develop and apply speech and language intervention strategies
Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate intervention strategies, which can include counseling, remediation, group techniques, and specific behavior management techniques.
Utilize and understand formal assessment instruments, procedures and techniques for evaluation and remediation of communication disorders
Understand statistical analysis and evaluation, testing materials and results, counseling and interpersonal relations.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Some related work experience in a school setting or professional capacity is desirable.
Work Environment : On-Site attendance is mandatory for this position.
Education
Must
have a MA degree and possess or have ability to obtain a NM Speech Language Pathologist license through the State of New Mexico
NM Public Education Department licensure requirement
