Medical Assistant II - Special Procedures – General Surgery, Full Time – Dedham
Under general supervision provides direct clinical and clerical support to medical and surgical specialty clinicians. Provides medical assistant support to physicians or advanced practice clinicians for both office visits as well as operative and surgical procedures. Performs tasks such as assisting in room preparation and turnover, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting the clinicians with minor operative and surgical procedures. May operate specialized equipment and performs general medical assistant support for pre‑ and post‑procedural office visits, including advanced level support tasks.
Education, Licenses & Certifications High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g., GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit. Associate’s degree in medical assisting or graduate of a medical assistant certification program is preferred. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
Experience Typically acquired through three years in a clinical setting with at least one as a Medical Assistant (a bachelor’s or associate degree may substitute for one year of experience). Computer experience required with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet programs. Electronic medical record (EMR) experience and/or aptitude to master EMR technology required.
Skills Able to communicate in a professional manner, demonstrating high level of skill in cleaning, maintenance, and usage of specialized equipment relevant to the department. Knowledge of sharps and biohazard materials, proficiency in setting up a sterile field, and ability to assist with procedures such as FNA. Ability to work with lab specimens, operating autoclave, and providing exceptional patient service. High level of customer service awareness and skills.
