Provides research support for a number of projects spanning the field of immunopathology in the Evavold and Lamb Labs in the Department of Pathology, Division of Microbiology & Immunology. Performs technical procedures in these research laboratories under supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles. RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the care of research mice; collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis. Perform dissections and minor animal surgery. Assist senior laboratory personnel with carrying out experimental procedures and recommend modifications as needed. Perform specialized tests and procedures using complex equipment. Procure/order supplies and materials needed to conduct research. Make statistical calculations, analyze data, and prepare reports summarizing results. Conduct literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research. WORK ENVIRONMENT Nearly Continuously: Laboratory environment. Often: Exposure to animals, infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing, pipetting), walking, standing, sitting. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience). Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Research Technician, I – Requires little to no related experience. PREFERENCES
