Inside Higher Ed We are currently seeking an Instructor Biology to join our Adjunct Faculty who will advance the institution’s tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service. The opportunity emphasizes student experience, collaboration, and innovation. Overview

Provide expertise and knowledge to support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following higher education standards, teach using a variety of effective methodologies, and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service. Faculty is expected to teach a full load each semester as defined in the Faculty Workload Guidelines. Demonstrate expertise and experience in classroom teaching. Faculty may be required to teach at various locations in the District. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching: demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in the biology discipline; improve instruction using innovative methodologies and delivery methods; develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory; plan, develop, and use varied teaching methods and materials; evaluate students and provide timely progress updates; keep accurate student records; review and select textbooks and materials; teach courses at various times and locations; use equipment and facilities responsibly; assist with routine maintenance of instructional laboratories; demonstrate competence and interest in educational technology. Academic Advising: maintain professional relationships with students and colleagues; provide access to students through office hours and electronic communication; advise on instructional or program-specific issues; present information on programs, transfer opportunities, work experiences, and support services; collaborate with the Chair on advising activities as needed. Professional Development: establish annual objectives for growth in consultation with the department chair; stay current in the discipline; apply technologies that support student learning; participate in evaluation processes for self, department, and college. Institutional and Community Service: participate in institutional activities, discipline or program meetings, and college/department committees; adhere to all policies of HCCS; engage in activities that support accreditation standards and the college mission. Qualifications

Education:

Must have completed at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in Biology and hold a Master’s degree (official transcripts conferring degree must accompany the application). Experience:

Minimum of one (1) year of college-level teaching experience or five (5) to ten (10) years of related work experience. Location
