Job Summary The Orthopedic Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the Orthopedic Surgeon as well as Medicine. The PA or APN provides care in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee.
The main function of this role is to provide consistent high quality perioperative and postoperative care for all orthopedic patients.
The APP will be expected to function as an active member of the surgery patient care team. Responsibilities include surgical first assisting, perioperative and postoperative management, hospital rounds on inpatients and emergency room consultations. The APP will be expected to work to the full extent of their licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy.
Responsibilities
Perform history and physical examinations in preparation for surgical procedures
Order appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special diagnostic tests and interpret and report to the surgical team
The APP may be asked to see emergent consults in the ED and on the floor
Assist with inpatient daily rounds as assigned (wound dressing changes, daily physical exams, and addressing patient concerns)
Explain procedures to patients prior to testing
Interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing results
Discharge patients in collaboration with the attending
Demonstrate strong organizational skills, effective communication, and time management
Manage reductions of fractures and dislocations in the emergency department
Perform duties independently and coordinate care with bedside nurse, attending physician, and other providers
Interact compassionately with patients across care areas
First assist in the operating room
Job Requirements / Qualifications
3 years Orthopedic surgery experience
Current APN or RNFA or PA certification
Current NJ state license, CDS and DEA
Current BLS and ACLS required
