Overview
Lab Specialist, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia. The lab focuses on development and application of advanced mass spectrometry technologies for target identification and drug discovery in cancer biology. The position provides technical support for projects, mentors laboratory personnel, performs experiments, maintains the laboratory environment, and supports independent research progress in a supportive setting. Responsibilities
Perform laboratory experiments that include cell culture, mass spectrometry sample preparation, and potentially mass spectrometry instrument maintenance. Coordinate and participate in routine technical duties by assisting graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, undergraduate students, and staff. Order supplies and equipment for the lab and maintain an organized system of operation. Participate in weekly group meetings and assist in evaluating research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives. Assist Principal Investigators and senior staff in developing new strategies and techniques for mass spectrometry-based method development. Facilitate collaborations with other laboratories. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Minimum Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required, may accept combination of experience/education/certification in lieu of degree. Experience:
1+ year of relevant lab experience required. Licensure:
None. Physical Demands
This position can involve extensive standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. It also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation. Additional Information
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. This is a non-exempt, benefited position. This is a restricted position dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA and must be performed fully on-site. Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment.
