Job Summary

Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques for pathologist evaluation and diagnosis. Responsibilities

Receives, accession and prepares tissues and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques; performs proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining and coverslipping. Sections and stains histological specimens for routine and special studies; prepares various stains, solutions and other compounds used in the staining process and follows written technical procedures. Prioritizes work appropriately, follows laboratory turnaround time standards and uses time efficiently. Assists pathologists within scope of practice. Monitors supply inventory and assists in ordering and stocking, properly logs reagents and supplies into the lab when received and follows laboratory inventory procedures. Demonstrates competency operating, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and instruments in accordance with manufacturer specifications and completes maintenance records; contacts Biomedical Engineering or Manufacturer for assistance or repair as needed. Able to multitask effectively and to work with limited supervision. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: Opt 1: Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program. Opt 2: HS and 60 college/university semester hours, with a combination of 12 hours biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full‑time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining. Opt 3: Associate degree with a combination of 12 hours biology and chemistry (must include both) AND one year full‑time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years including fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing and staining. Opt 4: Will consider candidates with High School diploma and two or more years of experience in all areas of routine histology in lieu of academic credit/degree and/or certification. Preferred Education and Certifications: Associate degree and successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician program, AND/OR Histotechnician certification, HT, by American Society of Clinical Pathology. Pay Range

$23.11 – $34.38 /hour
