Position Summary The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UNC‑Chapel Hill seeks a highly motivated faculty member to serve as an associate director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory. The role is open‑rank, track (tenure‑track / variable track). The successful candidate will serve as Director of Bacteriology and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing for UNC Health Care and provide technical expertise at a health‑care system level. They will work closely with pediatric and adult infectious disease services, hospital epidemiology and infection control, and other clinical services. The faculty member will also be a member of the CPEP‑accredited post‑doctoral fellowship in Medical and Public Health Microbiology and will actively engage in teaching medical students, graduate students, residents, and fellows. Responsibilities

Direct the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, including Bacteriology and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing.

Provide technical expertise and resources to pediatric and adult infectious disease services, hospital epidemiology, and infection control.

Serve as a faculty member of the CPEP‑accredited post‑doctoral fellowship and teach medical, graduate, resident, and fellow trainees.

Engage in independent or collaborative research, authorship of scholarly publications, and participation in interdisciplinary projects.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, with board certification or board eligibility in Medical Microbiology by the American Board of Medical Microbiology or the American Board of Pathology.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Demonstrated record of academic achievement through independent or collaborative research and scholarly publications.
