Position Purpose Under the administrative guidance of the Clinical Laboratory Leadership and the technical guidance of the on-duty pathologist(s), performs at the level of a licensed Histotechnologist to competently complete operational tasks in the histology section of the laboratory. Responsibilities include specimen receiving, assisting with grossing, tissue processing, microtomy, slide preparation, staining procedures (including special staining and immunohistochemistry), slide quality checks, assisting with bone marrow biopsies and aspirations, limited grossing, reviewing and signing off on competencies, and writing/reviewing procedures. Additional tasks include specimen accessioning, storage, retrieval, and reporting. The role involves performing histological procedures on tissues, fluids, and blood as per laboratory policies. Support tasks such as specimen collection, handling, data entry, and clerical duties may also be required. Scheduling hours may be adjusted as deemed necessary by the company. Nature and Scope Renown Regional Clinical Laboratory operates 24/7, serving inpatient and outpatient populations of all ages. The main challenge is to organize daily workloads efficiently to deliver accurate, timely diagnostic materials to pathologists, recognizing the uniqueness and limited accessibility of histologic specimens. The incumbent ensures daily tasks are completed and communicates any issues to the on-duty pathologist(s) and Histology Supervisor. Routine responsibilities include tissue processing, sectioning, slide preparation and staining, assisting with clinical procedures, limited grossing, immunohistochemistry, competency reviews, procedure documentation in accordance with CAP guidelines, assisting with grossing, performing special projects, training staff, and following autopsy protocols. The role requires maintaining technical skills, considering patient age during procedures, communicating effectively with diverse patients and families, and adhering to safety standards. Knowledge of all relevant procedures must be maintained, with annual competency demonstrations. The position involves accessioning specimens into Laboratory Information Systems, ensuring confidentiality, and providing patient care. Minimum Qualifications Name Description Education: Knowledge of English and appropriate education for Histotechnologist licensure in Nevada. Experience: Preferred prior histotechnologist experience. Licenses: Ability to obtain and maintain Nevada State licensure as a Technician or Supervisor. Certifications: Must have national certification as HTL or HT (ASCP). Computer Skills: Ability to develop necessary computer skills within 90 days for job requirements.
