The Role
Under general direction, the Mental Health Counselor provides clinical services including individual and group counseling, intake assessments, crisis intervention, and family counseling. Responsibilities include psychosocial assessments, mental health evaluations, treatment planning, and client referrals, supporting the agency’s mission and goals.
Responsibilities
Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments and mental health evaluations.
Provide individual, group, and family counseling aligned with treatment plans and make appropriate care referrals.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely client records in compliance with regulations and policies.
Ensure confidentiality per 42 CFR and HIPAA regulations.
Build and maintain relationships with community agencies and service providers.
Design and facilitate therapeutic groups based on client and program needs.
Participate in staff training and adhere to professional standards and ethical principles.
Continuously update skills and knowledge related to group facilitation and clinical interventions.
Qualifications
MSW degree for specific programs or divisions, or
Must obtain LMSW-Permit within 90 days and licensure within one year, or qualify as a QHP in OASAS programs, or hold NYS LMSW or LCSW licensure.
Experience with DHS CARES Software preferred.
Knowledge of multidisciplinary team approaches and crisis management techniques.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Understanding of laws and regulations governing substance abuse treatment.
