Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise, utilizing appropriate age and population‑specific standards related to the resident’s physical and psychosocial needs as per the care plan. Possesses the ability to perform testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident’s status and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates ability to recognize problems, recommend solutions, and respond effectively to assist in an emergent situation. Ensures the health, comfort and safety of residents, contributes to the assessment of residents, administers medications or treatments as ordered, provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed, documents resident interactions, and maintains effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public. Communicates clearly, maintains confidentiality, counsels residents and families, and develops self‑care programs as directed by the RN, advanced practice provider, or physician. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Graduated from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, holds a North Dakota Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or has completed an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
Has attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span or has a minimum of 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing board and/or possesses multi‑state licensure privileges.
Obtains and maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications, completes required annual Continuing Education Units (CEU), and fulfills competency training requirements of the department and facility.
