Community Health Connections (CHC) is a multi‑site, non‑profit health care center offering urgent care, primary family medical and pediatric care, preventative and restorative dental care, oral surgery, behavioral health services for children and adults, substance use disorder treatment, and specialty services including optometry eye care, optical shop, acupuncture, nutrition consultations and podiatry. CHC is mission‑driven, providing compassionate, quality health care regardless of income or health insurance status. CHC has five sites within Fitchburg, Gardner and Leominster with decades of experience as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), serving 36 communities in North Central Massachusetts.

Under the general supervision of the Optometry Clinical Manager, the Optician is responsible for dispensing spectacles and other optical aids to both adults and children, working with prescriptions written by CHC Optometrists and outside prescriptions. This position advises and assists patients with various types of lenses and spectacle frames, including style, weight, and color.

Responsibilities

Assist patients in the selection of eyeglass frames.

Choose appropriate lens materials for eyeglass prescriptions.

Accurately measure interpupillary distances.

Accurately measure segment heights for multifocal lenses.

Recommend and/or choose, when deemed appropriate, lens add‑ons such as non‑glare lenses or photochromics.

Adjust eyeglasses and perform minor repairs such as replacing nose‑pads.

Bill for services including lens materials, repairs, and dispensing of eyeglasses using the EMR.

Verify order data entry, compare prescription with original Rx and complete proper order filing procedures in the EMR.

Takes measurements and ensures correct frame selection, reads prescriptions on the lensometer, and manages product readiness and order advancement in the system.

Adhere to all privacy and confidentiality policies (HIPAA) and support members with eyeglass adjustments and repairs.

Perform general clinical duties with medium demand, including walking, standing, reaching, stooping and handling instruments.

Demonstrate commitment to patient care as part of a team and to CHC mission, values and standards.

Perform other job‑related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Active Optician License.

NCLE Certified preferred.

Previous experience preferred.

Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Computer skills for accurate data entry.

Interpersonal relationship skills.

Written and verbal communication skills in English.

Ability to work and multitask in a fast‑paced office environment.

Excellent customer service skills.
