Job Overview The PD Registered Pharmacist is responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care to all patient age groups (including geriatric and adult). The position is responsible for the preparation, dispensing, and monitoring of all medications and IV admixtures. The PD Registered Staff Pharmacist performs all duties concerning the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state and federal regulations and the department’s policies and procedures. All methods of practice shall conform to written hospital policies and shall be carried out to the highest achievable level of competency, demonstrating concern and consideration. The pharmacist will actively apply the Behavioral Health Center's philosophy of Total Quality Management in all dealings with internal and external customers.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum Bachelor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy
At least 1 year of hospital pharmacy experience
Certifications and Licenses Required
Currently Registered as a Pharmacist with the NJ Board of Pharmacy
Scheduling Requirements
Shift working, mostly weekend shifts, some weekday and holiday shifts
The weekend shift is 11:30am-8pm. Weekday shifts are 7am-3:30pm, 8:30am-5pm or 3:30pm-12am.
Per Diem (PD)
Essential Functions
Assumes the role of drug information provider to all members of the health care team for specific patient populations and age groups
Evaluates and reports adverse drug reactions, medication errors, interventions, and falls data
Participates in ongoing DUES, medication monitoring, and quality projects
Monitors specific medication prescribing in accordance with established drug usage criteria as defined by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
Notifies prescriber of any changes/modification of medications prescribed
Oversees preparation of PYXIS fills, loads and refills, medication ordering from pharmacy wholesaler
Supervises pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, technical staff and volunteers to ensure accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and procedures
Utilizes the medication screening process to ensure medication orders are complete, appropriate, within legal parameters and prioritized
Reviews orders for drug‑drug interactions, drug duplicates, allergies, dosing appropriateness and scheduling
Willingness and flexibility to work alternating and rotating schedules on short notice
Willingness to work with the realization that errors may have serious consequences to patients
Performs all other duties as assigned
