Department Information The Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health (OCFMH), part of the Colorado Department of Human Services, oversees policy development, service provision, program monitoring, and administrative oversight of the public behavioral health system. The Forensic Services Division manages departments including Forensic Community Based Services, Jail Based Evaluation and Restoration, Outpatient Restoration, Forensic Support Team, Court Services, and Operations.

Description Of Job Position: Health Professional IV – forensics. 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday‑Friday. Hybrid schedule: a minimum of two days in office, up to three days remote. The role is open only to current Colorado state residents.

Purpose Of The Position Assist the director in oversight and monitoring of competency‑based evaluation and restoration programs at Peak View Behavioral Health, Arapahoe County Detention Facility, and Denver County facilities. Responsibilities include screening referrals, assessing patient acuity, providing clinical team leadership, supporting Health Professional IIIs, overseeing private hospital beds, reporting performance data, writing policies, conducting audits, and coordinating with various agencies.

Job Duties

Screen Referrals for Admission to Hospital‑Purchased Beds : Collect and evaluate referrals from admissions, court services, jails, and databases; use established criteria to determine admissions, transfers, and discharges; make timely clinical judgments.

Work Lead to Health Professional III’s for Admission to Jail‑Based Beds : Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges to jail‑based restoration beds; support Health Professional IIIs in determining placement suitability.

Program Implementation and Monitoring Contractor Performance : Serve as contract monitor, conduct site visits and audits, ensure contractor compliance, liaise with stakeholders, and participate in on‑call duties.

Admission Coordination and Reporting : Collaborate with state psychiatric facilities, county jails, courts, and other partners to facilitate admissions and discharges; track data and report to CDHS and OCFMH; disseminate research and improvements to contractors.

Other Duties As Assigned : Perform additional tasks as required by the Forensic Services Division.

Minimum Qualifications

Seven (7) years of relevant experience in a related occupation.

Or a combination of related education and experience equal to seven (7) years.

Special Qualification : Master’s level education in mental health/social work (e.g., clinical psychology, forensic psychology) and a current license as a Clinical Social Worker with the Board of Social Work Examiners or as a Professional Counselor with the Colorado Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners. Prior experience with competency to stand trial and severe mental illness in acute settings is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with competency to stand trial and working with severe, persistently mentally ill individuals.

Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, and Google Applications.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, time management, and organizational skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively independently and in team settings.

Ability to prioritize work tasks independently and collaborate with team members.

Conditions of Employment
