Make an impact and become a part of our public health team. Reporting to the Public Health Nursing Supervisor, the Public Health Nurse provides population-focused, community-oriented nursing care. Public health nursing practice is based upon the nursing process, the tenets of public health nursing, and the core functions of public health: assessment, policy development, and assurance. Core business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Flexibility to work outside of core hours, including evenings and weekends, is required. Enforce State and Federal laws and regulations to protect health and safety. Identify high-risk population groups, families, and individuals. Collaborate with public and private organizations to address community health needs. Collect, review, and analyze health status data. Assess community strengths and needs. Develop policies and programs to address public health priorities. Provide case management and nursing care to individuals and families using the nursing process. Conduct community screening, health promotion, and immunization services. Provide information and referral services to the public and healthcare community. Evaluate healthcare service effectiveness and quality. Educate and empower the community on health issues. Maintain confidentiality and security of protected health information. Participate in quality improvement, coalitions, and professional meetings; promote professional growth. Complete and maintain emergency response training and participate in preparedness activities. Engage in divisional quality improvement, strategic planning, and community assessment activities. Provide practicum experiences for nursing students and residents. Participate in cross-training to promote a healthy environment and social conditions. Maintain regular attendance; evening, weekend, and extended hours may be required. Provide on-call services as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program and 1-2 years of clinical/public health nursing experience. Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Valid WI driver’s license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance. Preferred skills and knowledge include: Knowledge of public health core competencies. Experience with public health preparedness and response. Ability to operate medical equipment and interpret medical terminology. Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
