Summary
Using radiological (X-ray) imaging equipment and standards, the Imaging Technologist – Mammography prepares and performs procedures and tests used to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data under close to moderate supervision. By interviewing and preparing patients with an in-depth understanding of the equipment and procedures, this role ensures effective, safe use of this equipment and drives optimal care outcomes. As an experienced imaging technologist, this team member will work under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment in the performance of their role.
Responsibilities
Prepares and performs radiological (X-ray) imaging of the breast (mammography).
Reads and comprehends imaging orders, engaging with physicians when orders are unclear, complex, or warrant deeper review, and selects appropriate scanning protocols and imaging parameters based on knowledge of human anatomy.
Interviews patients to understand risk factors that may warrant a more in-depth examination for safety.
Guides patients, including those distressed, through their examination, applying subject‑matter expertise and cultural competency to explain the exam, setting expectations and calming the patient for effective imaging.
Uploads imaging results into Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and records information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Precepts entry‑level staff and orients new colleagues as assigned; collaborates to plan the workday and patient flow with colleagues.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited program in Radiological Science.
Five (5) years of experience working in a clinical imaging role, three (3) of which must be specifically in mammography.
Advanced certification in Mammography (ARRT‑M) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Good understanding of human anatomy—can be established through education or experience.
Experience performing stereotactic‑guided breast biopsies and/or contrast‑enhanced mammography.
Experience reading and interpreting radiology orders.
Experience working with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with EPIC EMR.
