SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs expanded and advanced level medical assistant duties, including identifying and resolving concerns regarding patient satisfaction, patient flow, and compliance with procedures and guidelines. Typically provides direct clinical support to one or more clinicians. Demonstrates a high level of competence and provides backup coverage for support staff. Works to improve clinical efficiencies by determining urgency and priority of walk-ins, add-on patients, and patient consultations. Provides direct clinical and clerical support to clinicians and may support more than one department. EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS High School diploma or equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC) from an accredited institution or governmental unit, or a Medical Assistant Certification required. Associate degree in medical assisting or graduate of a medical assistant certification program preferred. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred. ACLS may be required based on specialty. EXPERIENCE Typically acquired through three years in a clinical setting, with at least one year as a Medical Assistant (a bachelor’s or associate degree may substitute for one year of experience). Computer experience required, including word processing, spreadsheet programs, and electronic medical records (EMR). Experience or aptitude with EMR technology is required. SKILLS Professional and appropriate communication skills. Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills. Ability to think quickly and relate effectively with staff and patients. Ability to prioritize work in a busy environment.
