Essential Duties
Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors. Take history from client, perform physical assessments and record observations in the medical records. Educate clients on preventative healthcare recommendations and provide follow up. Communicate patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel. Perform venipuncture, in-house laboratory tests, and prepare forms for outside labs; relay results to owner as requested by veterinarian. Provide and monitor nursing care for hospitalized patients, including medications (all routes) and monitoring. Admit and discharge patients following all protocols; educate clients on admit/discharge. Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, wards and other areas as requested. Proficient knowledge of practice software for dispensing medications, printing treatment sheets, discharge instructions, labels and client communication. Ensure understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards. Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by veterinarian. Conduct tech appointments (pedicures, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, routine lab work, subcutaneous fluids, etc.) as deemed appropriate by the practice. Assist doctors in medical and diagnostic procedures. Place IV catheters and begin fluid therapy when required. Assist in induction and maintenance of general anesthesia with doctor present. Assist in operating room, recovery, and post-op nursing care as requested by veterinarian. Perform client callbacks and updates as requested. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
High School Diploma (or equivalent). At least 3 years of clinical veterinary hospital experience required; veterinary technician education is a plus. Excellent listening and communication skills. Strong work ethic and positive attitude. Flexible and able to adapt to new situations. Ability to multitask and work as a team player. Basic veterinary medical terminology required.
