General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at Union Memorial Hospital! The ideal candidate is a Certified Nursing Assistant who will provide our patients with extraordinary patient care by demonstrating a strong knowledge in the field.

This person will function as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. Assists medical and nursing staff with procedures and tests, and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). Performs specific care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, electrocardiography (EKG), and documentation in the health record. Incumbents in this position may perform all, or a combination of the duties described depending on the work area and patient needs.

Primary Duties:

Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and personal hygiene, including bathing, mouth care, dressing, skin care, positioning, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities. Assists with patient mobilization, rehabilitation, use of crutches and walkers, and transfer/transport of patients.

Collects specimens; performs venipuncture/phlebotomy; and obtains EKGs. Assists in measuring and documenting patient's intake and output. Records vital signs, height, weight, pulse oximetry, and other pertinent data in the health record.

Performs routine sterile and non-sterile treatments as per hospital policy, including tube feedings, ostomy care, Foley catheter care, dressing changes, wound care, turning, positioning, postmortem care, and assistance with traction, casts, splints, and exercise equipment.

Maintains patient comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity. Performs patient observation and prepares patients for provider examinations. Assists providers and RNs during procedures, participates in patient/family teaching, and responds promptly to questions. Reports changes in patient condition and ensures proper handoffs between shifts. Initiates and assists in CPR when indicated.

Ensures cleanliness and safety of patient rooms/environment, assists with linen management, trash removal, and cleaning. Transports and escorts patients during discharges and transfers. Completes errands such as delivering specimens and supplies. Maintains supply rooms.

Qualifications:

Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the relevant authority.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification preferred.

Experience as a CNA and in healthcare settings (acute, long-term care, etc.) preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $17.50 - $28.73.
