Base hourly pay: $11.00/hr - $11.00/hr. Specific rates vary by certification and experience: Water Plant Operator I: $28.27 - $37.31/hr Water Plant Operator II: $30.25 - $39.93/hr Water Plant Operator III: $32.37 - $42.72/hr Water Treatment Specialist: $37.06 - $48.92/hr Compensation & Benefits

The city of Thornton is seeking a Water Plant Operator/Water Treatment Specialist who represents a culture of health and is committed to providing high quality drinking water to our diverse customer base of 160,000 people. The system includes multiple source waters and water plants. Job Duties

Operate one of two high performance water treatment plants 50 mgd ultrafiltration plant 20+ mgd ozone/biofiltration plant Monitor raw, process and finished water quality Adjust water treatment chemicals Perform lab bench tests Adjust raw and finished water flows Order and receive chemicals Filter and membrane surveillance Rotate shifts Monitor and control water distribution and wastewater collection systems using automated control systems Collect and analyze water samples Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements (Safe Drinking Water Act, etc.) Operate SCADA, PCS, PLCs, RTUs and related instrumentation Create and analyze reports for compliance and cost of service Respond to customer inquiries and complaints Work a varying schedule, including overtime and after‑hours emergencies Education/Experience

High school diploma or GED; four years’ experience performing surface water treatment plant operations. Postsecondary education may be substituted for up to 50% of the experience. Licensing/Certification Requirements

State of Colorado Water Plant Operator’s certification, Class A. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of city policies, water treatment procedures, hydraulics, plumbing, and plant instrumentation Proficiency in SCADA systems, plant control systems, and data interpretation Understanding of regulatory requirements and water quality testing Ability to perform chemical and water quality monitoring, calibration, and troubleshooting Strong communication, documentation, and record‑keeping skills Physical ability to perform lifting, stand, and operate SCBA gear Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays Physical and Mental Requirements

Perform repetitive motions, kneel, squat, stoop, twist. Walk majority of time; lift >25 pounds regularly. Must pass medical fit testing for SCBA. Equal Employment Opportunity
