Lead Mechanical Engineer role at Eaton. This position is with Eaton’s AER MSD Mission System Division, based in Davenport, IA. Relocation assistance will be provided within the hiring country. The expected annual salary range is $93,750.03 - $137,500.04. Salaries are a general guideline and depend on candidate skills, experience, and qualifications. What You’ll Do
Primary Function:
The Air to Air (AAR) Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the creative design and development of Aerial / Air-to-Air refueling products. This role contributes to the overall design from project initiation through manufacturing launch, plus ongoing developments and support. Responsibilities include analysis and refinement of product requirements, development of design solutions that meet requirements, testing and certification of components and systems, and product qualification for performance, reliability, DFMA, and cost optimization. Design for X (DfX) experience is expected. The position collaborates with the Engineering Manager, Program Manager, Subject Matter Experts, Chief Engineers, other Mechanical Engineers and System Architects, Electrical/Software Engineers, Product Line Manager, and Operations, Sourcing, and Manufacturing teams to develop products in an organized and timely manner. Essential Functions Provide technical leadership for systems and sub-system developments in compliance with Eaton engineering processes, guidelines, and SOPs. Apply aerospace design processes and lead technical teams through gated design reviews. Ensure product meets technical, business, process, and regulatory requirements with stakeholders. Coordinate and execute product design activities within project scope, cost, and schedule constraints; understand business impact of design choices. Review project documentation such as analyses or tests for completeness and quality. Analyze and document multi-disciplinary requirements (mechanical, electro-mechanical, software, reliability, maintainability, safety). Interface with external customers to determine wants and translate into verifiable requirements. Collaborate with internal and external customers, suppliers, and various engineering and operations roles to develop systems and products. Lead risk and opportunity identification and mitigation for new designs and product improvements. Mentor less experienced engineers to improve product knowledge and engineering expertise. Support site and project planning, rollout, and MBSE/MBE requirements compliance. Execute and oversee engineering changes for production, manufacturing, and field issues. Other duties as assigned. Basic qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution Minimum 5 years of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable U.S. Federal Government contract requirements Eaton will not sponsor immigration for this position. CPT, OPT, STEM OPT, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc., are not supported Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university 7 years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and/or Systems Engineering 5 years of experience leading product development with requirements development, validation, verification, customer engagement, and systems documentation Design for Six Sigma or Six-Sigma (DMAIC) Greenbelt or Blackbelt Intermediate CREO design software experience and release of designs into configuration management systems Skills and Position Criteria
Demonstrated technical leadership with cross-functional teams Strong communication and collaboration with internal and external customers Creative and strategic thinking abilities Experience in one or more of: New Product Development, Mechanical engineering, Military/Aerospace projects, system integration and verification, requirements compliance and traceability Additional Information
