Job Overview Vigor Marine Group is an innovative, integrated partner with a national footprint in marine maintenance, modernization, fabrication, and services. The successful candidate will work in a shipyard environment, performing welding, fabrication, and repair tasks on naval vessels and commercial ships.

Responsibilities

Comply with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.

Work from ship specifications, work orders, and applicable drawings and blueprints to form, shape, fit, and weld vessels.

Research and suggest solutions for conditions requiring comprehensive condition‑found reports (CFRs).

Perform burning and use scarfing tips for cleanup and bevel parts.

Execute arc welding – SMAW, FCAW, GMAW.

Conduct carbon arc gouging for weld preparation and cleanup.

Properly care for and safely use hand and power tools.

Coordinate the performance and completion of job specifications.

Perform similar work in all areas of the yard as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Communicates effectively, works independently or in a group.

Performs basic math, including fractions.

Reads, writes, speaks, and comprehends English.

Thorough knowledge of marine fitting including compound shapes.

Calculates square footage and weight when required.

Education & Experience

High School diploma or GED preferred.

2–6 years relevant work experience.

Proven skills, work history, or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience.

Associate Levels Associate 2 Proficient in both Fire Watch and Associate 1 duties. Trains and assists with erecting and dismantling staging. Performs basic pipe bolting under a journey level employee or supervisor. Must acquire three additional ship repair skills to progress.

Associate 3 Proficient in Fire Watch, Associate 1, and Associate 2 duties. Trains and assists with rigging. Performs mechanical bolting under a journey level employee or supervisor. Must acquire three additional ship repair skills to progress.

Associate 4 Proficient in Fire Watch, Associate 1, 2, and 3 duties. Requires general supervision but can perform all A‑1 to A‑3 duties with limited oversight. Must acquire three additional ship repair skills and one certification to progress.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations

Welder – 11018, dual shield and SMAW certification.

Four‑hour fire watch certification.

HAZWOPER – First Responder Awareness Level.

Physical Demands Sitting, standing, walking, crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting, climbing, balancing, reaching, handling/grasping, fingering/feeling, pushing/pulling, lifting/carrying. Talking, hearing, vision, depth perception, color vision, field of vision.

Work Environment

Works indoors: Temperature variations, vibrations, humidity, chemicals, dust, and noise.

Works outdoors: Typical shipboard weather.

Safety equipment required: Welding helmet, long pants, long‑sleeved shirt, eye protection, hearing protection, respirator, hard hat, leather shoes.

Other exposures: Smoke, acids, degreasing cleaners, fumes, free silica, asbestos, dust, weld flash, paints, solvents, oil, and grease.

Operation of equipment/tools/vehicles: Uses grinders, hand/power tools, air torches, welding machines, come‑along, chain‑fall, hammer, wedges, wire feeders, compressed gas tanks, plate shears, hydraulic press, punching tools, plate rolls, carbon saw, surface slab, cranes, jib cranes, drill presses, and other hand tools.

Required hygiene standards: Company standards.
