Division of Facilities Management - Southern District. The Division of Facilities Management exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses. Facilities served include: Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP), Pueblo Regional Center (PRC), Division of Youth Services (DYS) - Zeb Pike, Spring Creek and Pueblo, and the Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the southern district. Total facilities are approximately 2 million sq. ft. at multiple sites in over 110 buildings. Position provides technical locksmith and security lock control services, designing, upgrading, installing, maintaining and repairing highly complex safety and security door control locking systems, electronic door control systems, mortise lock repair and maintenance, key hierarchy management, and related key systems and software (Keystone). Primary role is Locksmith; the work includes specialized duties to support site access and security needs.

Responsibilities

Repair mortise, cylindrical locks, and door hardware.

Perform general and routine locking system maintenance; respond to locksmith and door system work requests.

Meet with customers to determine what can be done within facility security and code requirements regarding door control changes.

Repair and maintain mortise locks, keys, door closers, panic hardware, hinges, strike plates; install locks and hardware on cabinets and interior millwork.

Calibrate and adjust automatic and hydraulic door actuators, closures, and fire door coordinators per NFPA and ADA guidelines.

Install, adjust and modify doors and hardware as required; determine door hardware requirements per code and regulatory requirements.

Adjust hinges and closers to ensure proper door closure and ADA conformance.

General repairs of key cutting machines including calibration for accuracy.

Ensure work is performed to a high standard and using proper PPE; conduct work in a journeyman-like professional manner.

Repair of electronic locking systems: maintain, troubleshoot, repair and install security electronic locking systems and equipment per manufacturer guidance and applicable codes.

Meet with customers for security and code requirements during new construction, modifications, and incidents.

Programming and troubleshooting of proximity and smart card locking systems.

Repair and maintain electronic lockdown components including solenoids, door position switches, and related hardware.

Maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism.

Staff Training: train staff on operation of manual and electronic locking systems; evaluate equipment and keying compatibility; input data into Best Keystone software and ensure core pinning aligns with locations.

Document locking protocols to maintain security across varying environments and coordinate locking schemes with customers.

Other Duties As Assigned: may be required to work at several sites, travel by state vehicle, and perform snow removal.

Minimum Qualifications Applicants must have one year of experience locksmithing that includes working with mortise locks, cylindrical locks, pinning/cutting keys and electric locks. Education substitutions are allowed per policy; attach transcripts or apprenticeship documentation as required.

Substitution: Education related to the position may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with mortise and BEST systems; troubleshooting and repairing electronic locks.

Experience in secured environments (prison, jail, mental health settings).

Experience with door preparation, hanging and adjustment; anti-ligature locks; BEST-Keystone software.

Certification as a Locksmith (attach certification to the application).

Conditions Of Employment

Background checks required; may disqualify based on findings.

Must be willing to pass full background check and have Colorado residency at application and throughout employment.

Must possess and maintain Locksmith certification within 9 months of hire; valid Colorado driver’s license; out-of-state license holders must obtain Colorado license within 30 days.

Travel by state vehicles; some duties require work outside normal hours; influenza vaccination or medical/religious exemption documentation may be required; TB test; ability to respond to emergencies.
