Position Mobile Diesel Technician Level II
– The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT Inspections and follow up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, braking, cooling systems, starters/alternators, engine electronics, diesel systems, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and related components.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment and systems, including electrical and air conditioning.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/assess solutions with sound judgment.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, with safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
Communicate with clients to assess needs and provide information or assistance, resolving issues as needed.
Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued device and TRAIT application; upload photos as required.
Complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
Operate independently with a self-managed daily schedule; maintain high productivity and work within standard repair times where possible.
Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary for repairs.
Coordinate with management and support teams for approvals on estimates, PO numbers, and RO findings.
Perform work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Maintain the service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' related experience, or an alternative combination such as higher education in a related discipline; or 5 years' related experience.
Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
Pass DOT/FMCSA requirements including pre-employment background screening and DOT physical; or submit valid DOT medical card with sufficent remaining validity as a substitute for a DOT physical.
Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority.
Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.
