Overview Dewberry’s New York, NY office is seeking an
Electrical Construction Inspector
to join our Construction Services Department. This position involves working on projects for various public clients in the greater NYC metropolitan area, including NYCDDC, NYCDEP, and PANYNJ. Typical projects involve municipal infrastructure improvements with electrical switchgear and substations, generators, motor controls, instrumentation and controls, and low/medium/high voltage work. Some mechanical, civil and structural knowledge is beneficial. Excavation and concrete experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
Willingness to learn and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Communicate with the Resident Engineer, other contract staff, and facility staff both in person and via two-way communications.
Read and interpret plans and specs; prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives, special inspection reports, daily time and material records, and documentation of unit price work.
Identify potential extra work issues and advise the Resident Engineer; prepare estimates of extra work with related sketches and documentation. Review plans for constructability and provide comments.
Review contractor payment requests and provide comments to the Resident Engineer.
Maintain working knowledge of the latest National Electric Code, NFPA 72, Building Codes, FAA Advisory Circulars, and testing criteria for electrical systems; knowledge of commissioning and testing of equipment is advantageous.
Experience with instrumentation and controls is preferred.
Required Skills & Required Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or licensed electrician (preferred).
Ten years’ experience inspecting construction work on projects ranging from $200K to $25 million+ with multiple crews.
Ability to work night and weekend shifts; ability to stay late or come in early as needed.
OSHA 10-hour construction safety training; fall protection; confined space and permit-required confined space entry (preferred).
NICET Level 3 in Electrical Power Testing, Fire Alarm Systems, and Work Zone Safety Certifications are desirable.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; occasional driving required.
Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains; ability to lift up to 25 lbs; ability to stand for long periods.
