Responsibilities
Perform routine tree and landscape maintenance along roadways.
Remove hazardous, dead, or dying trees to improve safety and visibility.
Trim or cut back trees, limbs, and brush to maintain clear zones, road signage visibility, and safe passage for vehicles.
Assess trees for hazards and determine if trimming or removal is needed.
Use climbing gear, safety lines, and knots safely when working in trees or from a bucket truck.
Operate and maintain equipment such as chainsaws, pole pruners, harnesses, bucket trucks, and other safety gear.
Ensure public and crew safety during all tree operations.
Participate in snow and ice removal operations, assist with storm cleanup, patch potholes, maintain roadsides, install or repair guardrails, and operate construction equipment.
May respond to traffic accidents and other emergency situations.
Equipment and Tools
Chainsaw, pole pruner, harness, bucket truck, safety lines, knots, and other climbing gear.
Concrete saw, core drill, 12‑22 ft flail mower, front‑end loader, hand‑operated pavement marking machine, power‑driven rollers, paint equipment, and other mechanical tools as required.
Elevational platform, line marking machine, and other specialized equipment for roadway maintenance.
Eligibility Requirements & Licensing
Must hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the “tank” endorsement. A copy of the CDL and a Medical Examiner’s Card (MEC) must be presented at interview.
Incumbents must reside within a 20‑mile radius of the posted location.
Willingness to accept emergency overtime duties, including mandatory winter overtime (November 1–April 30) and potential extended work during storms.
Must bring a copy of the Master Application to the interview.
Candidates will undertake a practicum evaluation for the Transportation Maintainer 3 role. Certified in aerial bucket truck and fall protection (safety harness and trauma strap) is required prior to interview.
Proof of required knowledge and experience must be shown on the application.
Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience in construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, or maintenance and repair of roadways, bridges, or airports.
Experience with operation and care of mechanical equipment is required.
Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma in a maintenance trade may substitute for experience.
Preferred: Skilled tree‑related work experience, and skilled tree‑climbing experience.
Position Highlights
Monday–Friday work schedule.
Full‑time (40 hours/week).
1st Shift (7:30 am–4:00 pm).

Retention of current licenses, permits, or certifications relevant to the role.
Physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual/auditory acuity to perform the duties.
Physical examination required.

Working Conditions
Exposure to extreme weather, heavy lifting, hazardous road and traffic conditions, heights, poison ivy, insect bites, and loud machinery.
May require participation in asbestos removal programs and use of protective equipment such as respirators and goggles.
