CFD Research is developing a novel framework for multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO) of aerospace systems. The framework integrates physics‑based modeling and simulation (M&S) with predictive machine learning (ML) techniques to perform more efficient optimization.
Role Overview Our team is seeking an engineer with intellectual curiosity and technical mastery necessary for development of next‑generation systems. This role will apply advanced modeling and simulation techniques to support multi‑disciplinary analysis and optimization of air frames, sensors, guidance, and control. The candidate will support delivery and deployment of modeling and optimization processes to the Air Force Research Laboratory and other DoD customers.
Requirements
Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
Position requires a Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science (or similar).
Proficiency with Python and C++ software languages used in simulations.
Proficiency with software development best practices – Git, code linting, CI/CD.
Experience with 6DOF engagement simulation, and/or mission simulation tools.
Experience with formal optimization (gradient‑based and gradient free).
Preferred Qualities
Experience with containerized workflows and deployment of software.
Experience with geometry modeling tools like CAD, OpenVSP, ESP.
Experience with aerodynamic modeling tools like Missile DATCOM, CBAERO, OpenVSP.
Experience with multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO).
Familiarity with supervised machine learning and reinforcement learning techniques.
Familiarity with guidance, navigation, and control schemes.
Masters or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline.
Location This role is based at Eglin AFB, in the Fort Walton Beach, FL area, and is 100% on‑site.
