Job Overview The Senior Superintendent is responsible for leading and managing on‑site construction activities for multiple large‑scale projects. Overseeing the overall coordination, supervision, and execution of construction projects, the Senior Superintendent ensures work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. The role collaborates closely with the Project Executive, Project Manager, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver quality projects.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Stakeholder Management – Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, building owners, architects, and key stakeholders.
Pre‑Construction Planning – Participate in constructability reviews, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management strategies.
Construction Management – Oversee all Project field operations, ensuring alignment with project plans and specifications; manage multiple trades, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure timely completion.
Safety Compliance – Lead site safety initiatives, enforce safety protocols, and ensure OSHA compliance; actively participate in safety inspections and ongoing site safety culture improvement.
Cost Management – Collaborate with Project Manager to control costs by managing labor, materials, and subcontractor performance; implement cost‑saving techniques, including Lean Construction practices.
Schedule Management – Develop, monitor, and adjust construction schedules to meet project deadlines; oversee the preparation of three‑week look‑ahead schedules.
Team Leadership – Mentor and guide Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, and self‑perform crews; foster a positive, productive team environment.
Subcontractor Coordination – Conduct weekly subcontractor meetings to review progress, resolve conflicts, and ensure adherence to project milestones and safety standards.
Project Quality Control – Ensure all work meets the quality standards set forth in the contract documents; manage the implementation of quality assurance/control procedures.
Risk Management – Identify and mitigate risks related to the construction schedule, budget, and quality; address and resolve on‑site conflicts in real time.
Closeout & Commissioning – Oversee the punch‑list process, ensure completion of as‑built documentation, warranties, and commissioning; manage final inspections and handover processes.
Documentation & Reporting – Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including daily reports, material logs, and safety inspection records; use project management software such as Procore, MS Project, and Bluebeam.
Experience Minimum of 10–15 years’ experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction, managing large‑scale multi‑million‑dollar projects.
Technical Skills Strong proficiency in project scheduling software (Microsoft Project, Primavera), Microsoft Office, field coordination, and quality control processes. Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, BIM, and CAD is preferred.
Certifications OSHA 10/30‑hour certification preferred; First Aid/CPR certification preferred. Knowledge of sustainable construction practices is a plus.
Education Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Leadership & Communication Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively manage a diverse team of subcontractors and site personnel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively lead project meetings and collaborate with key stakeholders.
Problem Solving Demonstrated ability to solve complex construction problems, negotiate effectively, and make timely, cost‑effective decisions.
Working Environment Primarily works on‑site at project locations, often in outdoor conditions. The Senior Superintendent will split time between the office and the construction site for effective oversight.
Physical Requirements Standing & walking 75%; sitting & desk work 25%; occasional lifting of materials and equipment.
