BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY Performs advanced (senior-level) grounds and building maintenance and construction work. Responsibilities include maintaining grounds appearance, repairing buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment; operating motorized equipment; requisitioning material and supplies; and maintaining records. Reports to the Region VI Municipal Maintenance Supervisor, and works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Tuesday – Friday, 10 hours a day, 40 hours a week
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs maintenance and repair work such as plumbing, painting, electrical, steam, air conditioning, and mechanical tasks. Performs carpentry work including installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of buildings, doors, windows, wood fixtures, and furniture. Performs maintenance repair work such as welding, brazing, and soldering on ferrous and non-ferrous metals to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts and equipment. Performs inspections of equipment, operating machinery, systems, and building accessories to ensure proper maintenance and repair. Oversees and performs groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, tree trimming, fertilizing, watering, planting trees and shrubs. Oversees and/or performs the removal of dirt, rubbish, and refuse from grounds. Oversees and/or performs repair and preventive maintenance on parking lots, roads, and sidewalks. Assists in implementing the preventive maintenance program for building and ground maintenance. Serves, repairs, and conducts preventive maintenance on groundskeeping equipment. Identifies mechanical problems and determines corrective actions. Repairs equipment and fabricates parts for repairs. Calculates material and labor costs and orders parts and supplies. Maintains and repairs electrical outlets, control panels, switches, fixtures, and accessories; replaces and reseats brushes on motors; splices wires and cables. Assists in the work order system, including closing and inputting work orders. Maintains records on work orders or projects in online database. Performs work in the work order system, including creating and closing work orders. May be required to work in CAPPS Financial and maintain a state-issued credit card. Maintains Common Access Card (CAC) and completes relevant training. May train others. Assists in on-call duties for after-hours, weekend, and holidays for facilities emergencies. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency policies. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, including holidays and weekends. Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required. EXPERIENCE: Four years’ experience in building/facility maintenance and repair work is required. Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) is required. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical or grounds maintenance is preferred. REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE: A valid driver’s license is required. If not a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after becoming a Texas resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business. Certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical is preferred. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Background Investigation:
Selected candidate must be able to obtain a CAC and/or pass a federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete SF-85 forms as part of OPM background checks. Eligibility to Work in the U.S.:

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS Work is typically outdoors and may involve standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. May work in awkward or cramped positions. Exposed to inclement weather. Frequently lifts and moves equipment/materials up to 125 pounds.
