Pay Competitive Employment type: Full-Time Job Description

Req#: 230953 The University of Wyoming invites diverse applicants to consider our employment opportunities. We are also especially interested in candidates who have experience working with diverse populations and/or diverse initiatives. JOB TITLE:

Post Doctoral Research Associate JOB PURPOSE:

The Laboratory for Low-Carbon Energy and Environmental Sustainability promotes a long-term vision for the role of both technology and policy to cope with complex energy, environmental and natural resource challenges. The laboratory conducts systems research that addresses technical, economic, and policy issues related to energy and environmental systems. Current interests of research mainly include low-carbon energy systems, carbon capture and storage, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, hydrogen production, and the energy-water nexus under carbon constraints for climate change mitigation. The laboratory pioneers the development of the Integrated Environmental Control Model (IECM), a computer tool used worldwide for power plant modeling and assessment. The principal investigator is Prof. Haibo Zhai, the Roy & Caryl Cline Distinguished Chair in Engineering at UW. He is also Adjunct Faculty in the School of Energy Resources and the School of Computing at UW and in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The laboratory will hire a postdoctoral research associate to work on a new research project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. This project will perform systems analysis for advancing bioenergy with deep carbon capture and storage (CCS) toward net-zero emissions in the electric power sector. Specifically, the postdoctoral research associate to be recruited will conduct detailed thermodynamic process modeling and techno-economic analysis for post-combustion CCS systems using liquid solvents for deep carbon capture (up to 99% CO2 removal) at biomass-coal co-firing power plants. The postdoctoral fellow will further incorporate research outcomes into the IECM with the PI, senior research staff, and PhD students. The postdoctoral fellow will also need to prepare progress reports, present research results at conferences, and publish work in peer-reviewed journals. REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate to be available to work on campus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A doctoral degree in chemical and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or other energy-related disciplines is required for this position. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The applicants with expertise in thermodynamic process modeling using ASPEN Plus and techno-economic analysis are strongly encouraged. REQUIRED MATERIALS:

Complete the online application and upload the following for a complete application: cover letter, resume or C.V., and contact information for four work-related references. HIRING STATEMENT:

This position will remain open until filled. Complete applications received by 05/12/2023 will receive full consideration. UW is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Educator and Employer.
