Job Scope : The basic function of the structural fitter is responsible for putting metal parts together to create a finished sheet or structural metal project. They use tools such as jacks, pry bars, hammers, saws, welding equipment or torches, and files or grinders to fit the parts exactly. Duration of Job : Temp to Hire — Based on Job Performance Duties / Responsibilities
may/may not be limited to the following: May layout and mark weld points
on parts or subassemblies using ruler, square, scribe or templates Fabricate, assemble, and install structural steel products such as beams, braces, pipes, and plates for offshore drilling jackets and decks Use Come-a-longs, chain falls, and other industry tools and equipment, and install, use, and remove stop plates, dogs, and pad eyes Position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind, and bolt components to position for welding Examine workpieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications Operate cutting equipment including torches and various power and hand tools Remove rough spots from workpieces using portable grinders, hand files, or scrapers Safely operate iron worker, grinders, overhead cranes, rigging, pipe threading machines, welding machines, and various pneumatic hand tools Assemble components with some fabrication of equipment needed for the job with minimal supervision Manage housekeeping activities when requested: maintain the work area clean, safe and organized; assist in waste disposal and recycling; cleanup after work is completed Execute daily work instructions received from Supervisor in a timely manner Work effectively to meet or exceed productivity goals while maintaining high quality standards; practice safety procedures in accordance with training and guidelines Comply with company policies and legal guidelines, helping to maintain a safe and orderly work environment; meet quality and performance requirements as outlined by QA and production standards Report safety hazards, quality, and production issues to management immediately Qualifications
Position Requirements : 3 - 5 years fitter work-related experience (Aluminum); lay-out and fitting experience with misc. metal & structural steel;
MUST
have a valid license; high school diploma or GED; MUST
be able to pass physical, drug screen, and background check;
MUST
have reliable transportation;
MUST
provide own welding shield & PPE (Hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, & gloves) Required Skills : Read and understand blueprint drawings; excellent math skills with ability to read a tape measure; problem-solving; communication; strong work ethic; consistency in quality Physical Requirements : Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; stand, bend, stoop, squat, or kneel regularly; climb stairs and ladders; work in varying hot and cold environments; ability to work in cramped/confined spaces; exposure to dust, dirt, debris, metal and paint fumes, gases; regularly exposed to high, precarious places and outdoor weather; occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock Other
