Campbell Generating Complex, West Olive, MI 49460 (two coal-fired power plants on site)

Role Summary The Production Supervisor is a highly technical supervisory role responsible for overseeing the operators running the power plant during their shifts. This position involves ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of large-scale, heavy industrial power generation equipment in a coal‑fired power plant environment.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise unionized plant operators who run the coal power plant on a shift basis.

Monitor and oversee plant systems including boilers, large pumps, motors, fans, and high‑pressure steam systems.

Troubleshoot operational issues and coordinate problem‑solving efforts to maintain plant reliability.

Review and understand piping and electrical schematics to assist with troubleshooting and system oversight.

Coordinate closely with engineering and maintenance teams to set work priorities and ensure safe operation.

Manage scheduling of overtime assignments by assessing employee eligibility and distributing assignments.

Implement worker protection procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols (called "switching and tagging" on site) to ensure maintenance can be performed safely.

Perform physical activities such as climbing stairs and ladders, crouching, and moving around the plant frequently.

Technical Requirements

Strong background in heavy industrial or heavy manufacturing settings is required, ideally with experience in power generation or thermal plants.

Experience reading and interpreting piping and electrical drawings is preferred.

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems and make operational decisions.

Prior supervisory experience in an industrial environment is important.

Familiarity with safety procedures and lockout/tagout (worker protection) systems.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred.

Candidates with substantial technical experience or specialized training in mechanical or power plant operations will also be considered.

Work Schedule and Shift Details

This role is 100% on‑site; remote work is not an option.

Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, but shifts may include afternoon or night shifts depending on operational needs and candidate capabilities.

The supervisor will be expected to participate in on‑call rotations approximately every 8th weekend. On‑call supervisors must be able to respond to the site within one hour if called in.

Overtime opportunities will be available.

Physical Demands

The job requires frequent movement around the plant, including climbing stairs and ladders, walking across uneven surfaces, and performing physical inspections.
