Electrical/Mechanical Field Service Technician

Summary Primary objective is to provide unmatched customer experiences and demonstrate JCI's Winning Behaviors that influence a positive culture, safety first attitude, relationship building, and impacts revenue growth and profitability. The Service Technician performs maintenance/preventative maintenance/electrical and millwright-type functions, including rotating equipment assembly/disassembly, basic equipment maintenance, rotating equipment alignments, basic electrical troubleshooting, and control panel startups, setting adjustments, and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
Rotating Equipment assembly/disassembly
Push/pull pumps and motors
Install seals/packing
Make recommendations to customers on repair options
Knowledge of, and perform, necessary repairs to achieve/maintain operations
Perform start-ups/commissioning of equipment
Basic Equipment Maintenance
Change oil/grease on various pumps, gear boxes, motors, etc.
Diagnose and correct basic mechanical issues
Advise customers of basic PM activities as recommended by OEM
Perform vibration testing and analysis on rotating equipment
Perform electrical and PdMA testing analysis on AC and DC motors
Perform IR testing and analysis on control panels, MCC's, motors and other electrical equipment
Complete required reports for the work completed
Basic Electrical
Understand and perform basic LOTO (Lock Out/Tag Out) functions
Troubleshoot AC and DC systems
Remove and/or install new or repaired electrical equipment
Field Service onsite Commissioning and start up
Understand and perform alignments and the necessity for equipment reliability
Achieve alignments on equipment in unfavorable conditions
Work with customers to explain the necessary modifications needed to achieve proper alignment
Complete information in reports as required
Work with Customer Service, Shop, and Sales
Start up of new and repaired wastewater/water and industrial equipment
Diagnose basic electrical panels and capable of making corrections
Read and interpret wiring diagrams
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Capable of using and reading precision measuring devices, such as micrometers and calipers
Strong sense of urgency and keen attention to detail
Able to wear personal protection equipment, including a respirator as necessary
Ability to work overtime hours based on customer demands
Ability to maintain an inventory of supplies carried on company supplied work truck
Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks
Fundamental understanding of rotating equipment, fabrication/manufacturing of equipment and machine shop practices
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a constructive and timely manner
Show competency at filling in paperwork and communicating effectively, and understanding exploded diagrams or cross-sectional drawings
Good communication skills with others by telephone, written documents or in person
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers in a pleasant and professional manner
Requirements
High School or equivalent, with mechanical aptitude and skills
5 years of rotating equipment repair, maintenance, and/or preventative maintenance preferred but not required
Able to obtain MEC (Medical Examiner's Certificate) under DOT as a ‘non-CDL' commercial motor vehicle driver
Maintain clean driving record
Ability to easily operate a computer and software such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
Willing to travel out of state occasionally
Willing to take after-hour calls
Physical Demands / Environment
Must be able to hear sounds and designate differences between them, and talk via telephone and electronic devices in the workplace
Ability to operate and read from computer/laptop monitor
See differences between colors, shades, and brightness
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally
Variable work environment - indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions at customer, vendor, and JCI facilities
Fast-paced environment, subject to schedule and priority changes and short notice activity
Willingness to work in wastewater environments as necessary
Classified as Safety Sensitive
