Position Summary With direct supervision from a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician B performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non‑diesel equipment and trucks—including chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies, control systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, air brake systems, engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems. The Technician B may also perform basic tire work such as replacement, rotation, and tread depth checks. Working on a single fleet with state‑of‑the‑art equipment, the Technician supports drivers as they run routes and services some of the most technically advanced vehicles on the road.

Principal Responsibilities

Maintain a working knowledge of vehicle components and systems, performing preventative and repair maintenance on‑site and on the road.

Repair and maintain chassis components, refuse bodies, hydraulic and electrical systems, and braking systems.

Repair and maintain engines, suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems.

Perform HVAC maintenance and line‑maintenance welding and fabrication.

Provide road service to return equipment to safe and efficient operation.

Identify malfunction sources using electronic diagnostic tools.

Complete applicable company training programs.

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic understanding of work‑order labor time standards.

Prior experience or knowledge of maintenance on Classes 1–5 light/medium duty and heavy‑duty Class 7–8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.

ASE certifications (T1–T8) are a plus but not required.

Commercial driver’s license is a plus but not required.

Valid driver’s license.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of one year’s experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of gasoline and diesel equipment diagnosis and repair, or graduation from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.

Ability to perform basic inspections in some heavy truck or automotive systems: suspension & steering; engine; transmission; brakes; electrical; hydraulics; drivetrain; diesel emissions.
