North Carolina State University is hiring for a Head Athletic Trainer within the Athletics/Sports Medicine Department. This position will serve as the Athletic Trainer for Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country.
Responsibilities
Assist the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in interviewing, selecting, training, and overall management of assigned employees – including Athletic Training Fellows.
Provide injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes and refer to associated health care professionals when necessary.
Communicate and collaborate with sports coaches, strength coaches, sports nutritionists, mental health professionals, and other Pack Performance units regarding the health and safety of student-athletes.
Maintain medical records on student-athletes including physical examinations and screenings, insurance information, and injury evaluation reports/treatment logs according to departmental, UNC System, and state standards.
Attend scheduled team practices and events and assist with coverage conflicts.
Provide emergency care when indicated.
Assist with proper use and maintenance of athletic training room equipment.
Assist with annual physical examinations, medical certifications, and drug testing program.
Assist with the preparation of budget requests and managing inventory of supplies for athletic training facility operations.
Document services rendered consistent with best practices and third-party payer standards.
Follow all developed departmental policies and procedures.
Follow the NATA Code of Ethics.
Remain current on all state and national requirements for certification and licensure.
Agree to comply with all regulatory agency statutes, University, ACC, and NCAA bylaws, legislation, and mandates.
Manage day-to-day operations of a facility within Sports Medicine.
Manage Pack Performance meetings.
Coordinate post-season and special events.
Sports assignments may change based on departmental needs at the discretion of the Associate AD for Sports Medicine.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in operating the training room.
Ensure proper use of equipment and facilities by student-athletes.
Work with the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and the Team Physician in providing adequate evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletically injured student-athletes.
Travel with the Track & Field / Cross Country team.
Supervisory Supervisory positions conduct interviews, lead hiring searches, provide recommendations on final hiring decisions, provide salary recommendations, monitor and assign work, provide regular feedback to direct reports, conduct performance evaluations, and create employee performance improvement plans.
Additional Duties
Assist in coordinating the sports medicine program for a highly competitive NCAA Division I-A program.
Post-season and special event coordination.
Supervision of assistant athletic trainers, graduate assistant athletic trainers and student workers.
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in coordination with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
Graduate of a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training program
Experience in collegiate athletics
Department Required Skills
Computer competency
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Must be able to lift up to 30-60 pounds occasionally, with or without a reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
NCAA Division I collegiate experience preferred
3+ years of post-graduate experience preferred but not required
Experience working with a Track or Cross Country program
Applicants with additional credentials, such as Physical Therapy and EMT, are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience preferred
Required License or Certification
Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC)
Current Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) certification by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Eligible for licensure by the NC Board of Athletic Training Examiners
